Come and visit any time to see what's happening in math class. I will be posting homework assignments and projects as they are assigned, as well as providing notification when a test or quiz will happen. On the right side you will find a list of links to helpful websites. The list will grow as we move our way through the 6th grade concepts. If you have any other ideas on how I can use this site to help students, please let me know. I'm looking forward to a wonderful year!!

10/1 Stem and leaf...

Today we took some time to graph the results of our timed multiplication and division test. This was a great preview for line graphs and scatterplots, which we will study next week. We also finished up our airplane toss activity, and the students will be completing the assignment at home this weekend.

Please sign up to be a member of our 6 Blue website.
I will soon be switching to that website to communicate the activities of our math class. The link is at the top of our 'helpful websites' section under Your Math Teacher on this blog.
We are really enjoying putting the new website together and hope it will help all of us communicate more effectively!

Today we used a template to convert numbers in standard notation to scientific notation. We also converted numbers in scientific notation to standard notation.

We are having a quiz on Tuesday. Monday, we will have a review. You should study for 10 minutes a night, practicing problems from all of the homework assignments we've completed. You should have all the correct answers on your homework. Hopefully you have been writing the correct answers down for problems that you have answered incorrectly.

Concepts that will be on the quiz:
Reading and writing large numbers
Reading and writing small numbers
Vocabulary words from your notes
Converting between word notation, standard notation, expanded notation, exponential notation, scientific notation, and number-word form.
Sequencing numbers in standard notation and expanded notation

Busy day, late update!
Today we finished up going over policies and procedures. We played a swashbuckling pirate place value game, a link to which you will find under the picture of your math teacher! On to place value lessons for the rest of the week.

No homework today!

September 7, 2010

The second week of school is upon us! In math class today, we went over the answers to our SRB Scavenger Hunt. In E and F blocks, we then continued our discussion of policies and procedures. The students in those classes received a handout to put in a safe place in their binders and keep for the entire year. B and C blocks will get the handout and discussion tomorrow, since we did not have enough time today.

Hw: Finish your Scavenger Hunt if you didn't complete it over the weekend. No other homework was assigned!

Thursday, September 2, 2010

September 2, 2010

Math students received their SRB, or Student Reference Books, which they will keep at home for the entire school year. They will use this book for their weekend homework, as well as have it for a reference throughout the year to help them complete assignments. I hope to see all students come to math class on Tuesday with their math binders all ready to fill with notes, homework, etc...

Have a wonderful, safe long weekend!

HW: Scavenger Hunt (worksheets pg. 2,3, and 4) Please use your SRB to complete the scavenger hunt. The most important part of the assignment is to find the proper page number for each concept.
**If you have trouble finishing, and you have spent more than an hour, please have a parent or guardian sign the top of the paper and record how much time was spent.
***Blocks E and F had time to start the assignment in class today.

September 1

After an extended homeroom period, all classes met and copied the web address for this blog into their agendas. We discussed some classroom policies, and will continue that discussion tomorrow. It was great to meet everyone. Slowly, I'm remembering names, despite the heat!.

I would like all classes to bring their Math Binders to class tomorrow, if they have them. If not, then please have them by Tuesday. I'd like each student to have one binder sheet protector for their classroom policies and procedures handout.

HW: Have all forms signed and returned by September 9.

August 31, 2010 First Day of School

Welcome to Briscoe, 6 Blue!! We're so happy to start off the school year, even though the recent heat wave has us slightly uncomfortable!

Today we stayed with our homeroom teachers to tour the building, learn fire drill procedure and take care of some housekeeping details.

Homework is to have all signed forms returned by September 9th.
